SSC CHSL Exam 2016

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam each year. This year a brand new pattern has been incorporated. Let us find out about the latest changes in the present article.

SSC CHSL Exam Stages

The selection process essentially includes three stages.

  • 1st Stage: Tier-1 Written Exam (Objective Type) (200 Marks) (Online Mode)
  • 2nd Stage: Tier-2 Written Exam (Descriptive Type) (100 Marks) (Written Mode)
  • 3rd Stage: Tier-3 Skill Test / Typing Test (candidates who qualify the tier-2 exam will be called for Skill Test / Typing Test)

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam

Date of Exam : January 7, 2017 to February 5, 2017

  • The Tier 1 Exam will be online.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
  • There will be 4 parts in the paper, the details of which are mentioned below
1 General Intelligence 25 50
2 English Language 25 50
3 Quantitative Aptitude 25 50
4 General Awareness 25 50

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam

Date of Exam : April 9, 2017

Tier 2 Exam will be descriptive in nature and will be conducted in pen and paper mode i.e offline. This paper has been introduced to assess the writing skills of the candidates which is necessary in Government jobs. Questions based on Essay Writing and Letter/Application Writing etc. will be asked in this exam.

  • Maximum Marks – 100
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks- 33 per cent%

SSC CHSL Tier 3 Exam

Tier 3 Exam will be conducted for  Skill Test / Typing Test which would be of a qualifying nature.

Typing Test will be conducted for those candidates who qualify in the Computer based Written Examination (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II). Such Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form

  • Skill test for Data Entry Operator

The ‘Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour on Computer’ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/key depressions as per the given passage and the duration of the said Test will be 15 Minutes.

  • Typing Test for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant LDCs and Court Clerks

Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute and those opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 words per minute. The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.

The final merit of the successful candidates would be determined on the basis of total score obtained by them in Tier-1 and Tier-2 examination only.
